The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is into the second phase as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took a giant step towards the Playoffs on Monday (April 29) after they beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets at the Eden Gardens. The win can be attributed to not only Phil Salt (68) who grabbed the spotlight with his quickfire fifty, but also Varun Chakaravarthy who ended with figures of 16/3 in his four overs. Speaking after the match, Salt opened up on his aggressive style of play in powerplays which helped lay the foundation for big totals for KKR.

Salt opens on style of play
“It is high-risk at times, but it is also about putting the odds in your favour and not taking the risks you don’t want to,” Salt told the host broadcaster after the game. “That’s the sort of balance that every opening batter tries to strike. Sometimes you can miss the boat a few innings in a row, but you just got to keep backing yourself and sort of taking those right options.”
Salt has been in superb form in IPL 2024 having scored 392 runs in nine matches for the two-time IPL champions. His accolades include four fifties for KKR in IPL 2024 as he takes the baton as one of the best openers in the tournament. He is KKR’s top scorer in the tournament having played every match so far. His destructive opening partnership with Sunil Narine has helped KKR dominate the opposition bowling line-up several times.
KKR on the brink of Playoff qualification
KKR are on the brink of Playoff qualification after hammering DC by seven wickets to inch another step towards the last four. As things stand, the former champions have six wins in nine matches and reside second in the standings with 12 points. With five matches still to be played in the league stage, KKR need two more wins to guarantee a top-four finish in a tightly contested IPL 2024. However, the franchise will try to push for a top-two finish which would guarantee them two chances to make the final in Chennai on May 26.
KKR are next in action on Friday (May 3) when they face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
