Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced another batting masterclass on Saturday (April 20) as they beat hosts Delhi Capitals by 67 runs. On an evening where SRH broke the record for the highest powerplay score with 125 runs in six overs, the hosts were left helpless and were narrowed to their fifth defeat of the season. DC never in contest
Tasked to chase a mammoth 267 runs to win, DC were never in the contest after they lost openers Prithvi Shaw (16) and David Warner (1) inside the powerplay. Jake Fraser-McGurk (65 off 18) and Abhishek Porel (42 off 22) tried to come good with the bat, but the scoreboard pressure ultimately got the better of them as they suffered the defeat. Captain Rishabh Pant scored 44, but could not help his side avoid the defeat on their return to the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Batting first, SRH scored 266/7 in their 20 overs, their third-highest score in the history of the tournament. Travis Head led the charge with yet another fifty as he scored 89 off 32 deliveries. His innings consisted of 11 fours and 6 sixes. Shahbaz Ahmed was also amongst the runs having scored an unbeaten 59 off 29 while Abhishek Sharma amassed 46 of 12 scoring at almost 4 runs per ball. Nitish Reddy also played a good part in the innings scoring 37 off 27.
Interestingly, three bowlers ended up giving up more than fifty runs as Kuldeep Yadav ended with figures of 55/4.
What next for both sides?
DC are next in action on Wednesday (April 24) when they face 2022 IPL champions Gujarat Titans at the same venue in New Delhi. They will have three matches at home including Mumbai Indians next weekend as they look to surge in the IPL standings. SRH on the other hand face strugglers Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Hyderabad on Thursday (April 25). The two teams’ earlier meeting was a record-breaking outing with SRH scoring 287 runs in 20 overs.
