Rohit Sharma marked his landmark appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with yet another feather in his hat while playing for Mumbai Indians against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday (April 18). Rohit, now in his 17th season in the IPL has completed 6,500 runs in the tournament. He now ranks fourth on the list for most runs in the tournament history with only Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner scoring more.

Rohit marks landmark day with yet another feat

Playing in his 250th IPL match, the former Mumbai Indians captain reached the feat on the third ball of the ninth over. With this, he is also the third-highest Indian scorer in the history of the IPL while also being the top scorer for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians. His exploits have already seen him cement his legacy as one of the greats of the IPL.

With 250 appearances in the IPL, only MS Dhoni has played more matches in the tournament history. Rohit started his journey in the IPL in 2008 with Deccan Chargers and has since won the competition on six occasions, five times with Mumbai Indians.

Rohit also averages 30.10 with the bat and has 275 sixes in the competition’s history. Interestingly, with 15 wickets in IPL history, he also accounts for two hat-tricks with the ball.

At the time of writing, PBKS were 28/4 in four overs with MI having scored 192/7 in their 20 overs. Rohit scored 36 off 25 while Suryakumar Yadav turned the screw with a top score of 78 off 53. Tillak Varma was also impressive with the bat having notched 34 off 18 to help MI get close to the 200-run mark. So far in the IPL 2024, MI have won only two matches and are searching for their third win of the campaign in Mullanpur.
