For the second time this season, the SunRisers Hyderabad broke the record of the highest team total in the Indian Premier League, smashing a whopping 287 for three against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday (April 15). Travis Head hit his maiden IPL hundred, while South African Heinrich Klaasen struck 67 off 31 deliveries. Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad also played quickfire cameos of 32* and 37*, respectively, to help their team go past their previous record of 277 against Mumbai Indians earlier this season.

Batting first in Bengaluru was the perfect chance for them to smash whatever record they wanted to, and much to no one’s disappointment, they did the same. The attacking opening stand between Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head was of 108 runs in just nine overs, while Head completed his maiden IPL ton soon after the 10th over.
Following their dismissals, Klaasen began from where Head had left, whacking each of RCB bowlers to all parts of the ground and some even beyond the stadium. The man-in-form, who was instrumental in breaking RCB’s previous record against MI earlier this season, was again on a song, completing another fifty and helping the team cross 200 in 15 overs.
While the 277 score looked like getting breached on Monday, SRH batters ensured they are doing it with utter disdain.
The middle order pair of Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad played brilliant cameos, with Markram hitting an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls, including two sixes and as many fours, Samad smashed 37 off just 10 deliveries, including three sixes and four boundaries.
Although there was not much to look into RCB’s bowling, given they almost leaked 300 runs in a T20 game, their best bowler was seamer Yash Dayal (for bowlers who completed four overs), who conceded 51 in his quota, going for over 12 runs per over.
Several records were also broken, with SRH hitting most sixes by a team in an IPL innings, hitting 22, while they also surpassed their previous team total to go on top for teams with highest scores. 287 for three also happens to be the second highest score in all T20 cricket.
