Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made light work of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season on Friday (April 5) after they registered a six-wicket win at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH, who have a poor head-to-record against CSK, registered just their sixth win against the Yellow Army in the South Indian derby. The win was manufactured by Aiden Markram’s 50 off 36 which paved the way for the second two points of the season for SRH.

Having lost to Gujarat Titans on Sunday, SRH did not have too much hustle in chasing 166 runs in the 20 overs. Riding on Markram’s 50, SRH won the contest with 11 balls to spare with Abhishek Sharma (37) and Travis Head (31) also contributing heavily to the team’s cause. SRH were 84/2 after 10 overs and put the CSK bowlers on the backfoot with an attacking display with bat. Heinrich Klaasen (10) and Nitish Reddy (14) then SRH home with the latter scoring the winning six.
Put into bat first, CSK did not have the best start and lost Rachin Ravindra for 12 while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad returned to the pavilion on 26. Ajinkya Rahane (35) and then Shivam Dube (45) steadied the innings with a 65-run stand. However, CSK found it hard to accelerate with the run rate and ended up scoring 165/5 in their 20 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan both ended with one wicket each to restrict the opposition.
SRH next take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday (April 9) which will be the final contest in Mullanpur before the North Indian side moves to its Mohali base. Today’s match also saw them move to four points from four matches as they stay in the hunt for the playoff places in the early days. On the flip side, CSK take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai on Monday and they too have the same number of points.
