Gujarat Titans (GT) got back to winning ways with a thumping seven-wicket win over SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 31 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chasing a modest 163, GT reached the target in 19.1 overs, thanks to some handy contribution by the top four batters. Sai Sudharsan was the top scorer for GT with 36-ball 45.

Wriddhiman Saha gave GT a quick start, scoring 25 off 13 balls before being dismissed in the fifth over. Skipper Shubman Gill and Sudharsan then added 38 runs for the next wicket before Gill went back after scoring 36 runs. David Miller then joined Sudharsan on the crease and the duo effectively sealed the game with a 64-run partnership for the third wicket.

After Sudharsan’s fall in the 17th over, Vijay Shankar (14) and Miller, who scored unbeaten 44, took the team home. For SRH, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mayank Markande and Pat Cummins were able to pick one wicket each.

Earlier, SRH won the toss and elected to bat first. Travis Head and Mayank Agarwal again gave a decent start, adding 34 runs for the first wicket before Agarwal (16) was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai in the fifth over. Head departed in the first over after the powerplay after scoring 19. Abhishek Sharma (29 off 20) was the next to fall with SRH at 74/3 at the halfway mark.

Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram added 34 runs for the fourth wicket but both batters departed by 15th over with 114 on the board. Handy innings of 22 and 29 off 14 by Ahmed and Abdul Samad, respectively took SRH near 160 before Mohit Sharma’s final over saw three wickets falling. SRH eventually finished at 162/8 in 20 overs.

Mohit once again was the pick of the bowlers for GT with 3/25 while Omarzai, Umesh Yadav, Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad picked one each. This was GT’s second win in three games while SRH have now lost two of their three games.
