IPL 2024 Auction: SRH strike RECORD-BREAKING $2.5 million deal for Pat Cummins

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) smashed the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction record after they splashed $2.5 million on Australia skipper Pat Cummins. The Australian broke the previous record of $2.2 million set by Sam Curran for the IPL 2023 auction. Cummins was predicted to go big and was of great interest to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but the 2016 champions got their hands on him. Cummins will come as a good captaincy material for the side who have been struggling and will bolster the team’s challenge for the IPL title.

Starting with a base price of $220,000 Cummins was of big interest for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with both teams keepin firm interest. However, after the initial push it was RCB and SRH who went toe-to-toe for the Aussie as they splashed the cash on him. In the end, it was SRH who pulled the deal having earlier bought his compatriot Travis Head for INR 4.8 crore.
