Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has joined Nottinghamshire for the remainder of the T20 Blast 2026 season after becoming eligible to play as a local player. The 34-year-old secured a British passport through his wife, who is a UK citizen, allowing him to feature without occupying one of the club’s overseas player slots.

Amir, who last represented Pakistan during the T20 World Cup 2024, will be available for Nottinghamshire’s remaining group-stage fixtures as well as any knockout matches they qualify for. His availability strengthens Nottinghamshire’s bowling attack as they sit second in the North Group after six matches.

Because Amir now qualifies as a local player, Nottinghamshire can continue fielding both South African all-rounder George Linde and Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali as their overseas players. Amir is expected to make his debut for the club in Friday’s away fixture against Kent.

Speaking after completing the move, Amir expressed his excitement about joining the county.

“I’m really excited to have joined Notts. I’ve heard lots of good things about this club, and I’m looking forward to it. I have lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know T20 cricket is all about entertaining the fans, so I’ll be giving my best to help this team and make the supporters happy,” Amir said.

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores, who previously worked with Amir at Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League, welcomed the experienced left-arm pacer to the squad.

“Mo has an outstanding skillset with the new ball and at the death. His ability to perform under pressure has made him a valuable asset for teams across the world,” Moores said.

Amir brings significant experience in English domestic cricket, having previously represented Essex, Gloucestershire, and Derbyshire in the T20 Blast. He has also played in The Hundred for London Spirit, Oval Invincibles (now MI London), and Northern Superchargers (now Sunrisers Leeds).

Reports also suggest Amir is being considered as a replacement signing for Trent Rockets in The Hundred 2026. The franchise is currently monitoring the fitness of David Payne, who is recovering from ankle surgery, while New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry is also a doubt after suffering a low-grade calf strain.

Meanwhile, Derbyshire have confirmed the signing of Pakistan left-arm wrist-spinner Sufyan Moqim for the second half of the T20 Blast. Moqim’s initial stint with the county was postponed after he received a call-up to Pakistan’s ODI squad for the Australia series.

The young spinner will now replace Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar, who has been withdrawn by the Afghanistan Cricket Board to manage his workload during the season.
