The Oakland leg of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 began with a low-scoring contest as Texas Super Kings delivered a complete team performance to defeat San Francisco Unicorns by a comfortable margin. After posting 161 for 8 on a challenging batting surface, the Super Kings’ pace attack, led by Amshi de Silva’s impressive four-wicket haul, dismantled the Unicorns’ batting lineup to secure their second victory of the season.

Faf du Plessis and Saiteja Mukkamalla Provide a Strong Start

After being asked to bat first, Texas Super Kings made a positive start thanks to an aggressive opening partnership between Faf du Plessis and Saiteja Mukkamalla. The pair added 72 runs in less than eight overs, giving the innings early momentum and putting pressure on the Unicorns’ bowlers.

However, the Super Kings suffered a middle-order collapse and slipped to 96 for 5 in the 13th over. Just when San Francisco looked set to seize control, Donovan Ferreira stepped up with a crucial innings.

Donovan Ferreira’s Counterattack Lifts Super Kings to 161

Ferreira played a match-defining knock of 45 runs from just 28 balls, smashing four sixes and maintaining the scoring rate when wickets were falling around him. He shared a valuable 40-run partnership with Wiaan Mulder for the sixth wicket.

While Mulder contributed only four runs, Ferreira dominated the stand by scoring 34 of those runs himself. His aggressive batting ensured Texas Super Kings finished with a competitive total of 161 for 8, a score that later proved more than enough on a difficult pitch.

Amshi de Silva Sparks Unicorns Collapse

San Francisco Unicorns never managed to build any significant momentum in their chase. Amshi de Silva struck early by dismissing explosive opener Finn Allen in the third over before removing Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Connor Esterhuizen in a decisive fifth over.

Although the Unicorns reached 53 for 3 at the end of the powerplay, they were already behind the game compared to Texas Super Kings, who had reached 48 without loss during their first six overs.

De Silva finished with outstanding figures of 4 for 28, producing the standout bowling performance of the match and putting the Unicorns under constant pressure.

Super Kings Pacers Complete the Job

Following de Silva’s breakthroughs, Abhimanyu Lamba and the rest of the Super Kings pace attack tightened their grip on the contest. The Unicorns’ batting lineup continued to crumble, slipping to 115 for 8 after 15 overs.

No batter managed to score more than 28 runs, highlighting the effectiveness of Texas’ disciplined bowling effort. While Brody Couch attempted a late fightback with partnerships worth 25 and 20 runs alongside Hammad Azam and Peter Siddle, the target remained out of reach.

Adam Milne returned to wrap up the innings, completing a dominant bowling display that saw five Texas seamers claim at least two wickets.

The victory ends a brief two-match losing streak for Texas Super Kings and lifts them to second place in the MLC 2026 standings with two wins from four matches.

They now trail leaders Los Angeles Knight Riders, who have won both of their matches so far. Meanwhile, San Francisco Unicorns remain near the bottom of the table in fifth place with one win from three games.

With Amshi de Silva leading the bowling attack and Donovan Ferreira delivering under pressure, Texas Super Kings will take plenty of confidence from this well-rounded performance as the MLC 2026 season progresses.
