Essex continued their impressive run in the Vitality Blast with a dramatic three-run victory over Kent Spitfires, thanks to another outstanding innings from Charlie Allison and a disciplined bowling display.

The 21-year-old Allison extended his rich vein of form with a career-best 74, registering his third consecutive half-century and guiding Essex to a competitive 187 for 6. Jordan Cox, returning after IPL and England Lions commitments, chipped in with a fluent 40, while Wiaan Mulder’s late cameo provided crucial momentum.

Kent’s chase never fully gained control after early wickets from Charlie Bennett put them on the back foot. Although Sam Billings produced a determined 62 and shared important partnerships, Essex’s bowlers kept striking at key moments to maintain their advantage.

Zum Akhter starred with the ball, claiming 3 for 19, while Simon Harmer’s sharp fielding and timely breakthroughs ensured the hosts remained in command. A late 34-run last-wicket stand threatened to snatch victory for Kent, but Essex held their nerve to seal a narrow win.
