Charlie Allison produced a composed unbeaten half-century as Essex Eagles chased down Derbyshire Falcons’ total of 173 to secure a convincing victory at the Ambassador Cruise Line Ground.

Essex’s bowlers laid the foundation with a disciplined performance, sharing wickets throughout the innings to keep the usually explosive Falcons in check. Matt Montgomery’s 50 was the lone bright spot for Derbyshire as regular wickets prevented them from building momentum and left them well short of a competitive total.

After winning the toss, Derbyshire hoped to continue their aggressive start to the Blast season, having already posted several huge scores. However, Essex struck early, removing key batters including Aneurin Donald, Martin Andersson and Wayne Madsen to put the visitors under pressure.

Montgomery fought hard with a well-crafted fifty, but support was limited as Essex’s attack maintained control. Derbyshire eventually finished on 173, a score that looked below par on a ground known for high-scoring encounters.

In reply, Essex recovered from an early scare as Paul Walter and Charlie Allison added a fluent partnership that kept the chase on track. Walter made a quick-fire 41 before departing, but Allison remained calm at the crease, finding support from Matt Critchley in a crucial stand that guided the hosts towards the target.

Allison brought up his second T20 half-century and ensured there were no late nerves, finishing the match in style with a straight six as Essex completed the chase with two balls remaining. The win keeps both sides level on two victories in their respective Blast campaigns, with Essex once again showing their ability to thrive in pressure situations.
