Shubman Gill admitted Gujarat Titans were let down by poor fielding after Royal Challengers Bengaluru piled up a massive 254 for 5 in their playoff clash at Dharamsala.

GT were in control for large parts of the innings with RCB at 140 for 3 after 14 overs on a batting-friendly surface. But captain Rajat Patidar launched a stunning late assault, smashing an unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls as Bengaluru hammered 114 runs in the final six overs.

Gill pointed to Gujarat’s sloppy efforts in the field as the turning point, with multiple dropped catches and missed opportunities allowing RCB to run away with the game.

“I don’t think our fielding was at par,” Gill said after the match. “We dropped a couple of catches and our ground fielding was not up to the mark.”

The chase never recovered after Gujarat collapsed to 51 for 5 inside the powerplay. RCB’s bowlers kept striking regularly as GT slipped further to 88 for 8 before Rahul Tewatia produced a late counterattack with a fighting half-century.

Gill believed a better start could still have made the daunting target achievable given the conditions in Dharamsala.

“If you get a good powerplay on a ground like this, any target could have been chaseable,” he said, highlighting the fast outfield and batting-friendly wicket.

Despite the defeat, Gujarat Titans remain alive in the tournament and will now play Qualifier 2 on May 29 against the winner of the Eliminator between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in New Chandigarh.
