The same squad will also participate in a tri-series involving Bangladesh women’s national cricket team and Scotland women’s national cricket team ahead of the global event.
The Netherlands have made two changes to the squad that featured in the T20 World Cup Qualifier earlier this year, bringing in wicketkeeper-batter Rosalie Lawrence and bowling allrounder Lara Leemhuis.
The Dutch side secured qualification for the Women’s T20 World Cup alongside Bangladesh, Ireland and Scotland after impressive performances in the qualifying tournament. Head coach Neil MacRae praised the balance within the squad and highlighted the team’s progress over the last year.
“The Netherlands have selected a World Cup squad which blends youth and experience,” MacRae said. “Babette de Leede captains the squad which will compete at the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time. The players are looking forward to competing against the top ICC nations.”
Captain Babette de Leede expressed excitement about representing the Netherlands on the world stage.
“We are super excited for our first-ever appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup. It’s a great opportunity to compete with the best teams in the world and showcase the talent we have in the Netherlands,” de Leede said.
Experienced batter Sterre Kalis, who has been in strong form for Yorkshire in England’s Women’s One Day Cup, also spoke about the significance of the qualification for Dutch cricket.
“It’s massive for us. Cricket is not one of the biggest sports in the Netherlands, so qualifying for our first T20 World Cup is incredibly special,” Kalis said. “Hopefully this inspires more young girls and boys to take up the sport.”
The Netherlands have been placed in Group 1 of the Women’s T20 World Cup alongside Bangladesh, India, Australia, South Africa and Pakistan. They will begin their campaign against Bangladesh at Edgbaston on June 14.
Before the World Cup begins, the Dutch team will take part in a tri-series in Scotland from May 28 to June 4, featuring six round-robin matches.
