Selectors recall Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam while Khaled Ahmed and Jaker Ali miss out for Dhaka Test starting May 8

Bangladesh have announced their Test squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan, with exciting new inclusions as top-order batter Tanzid Hasan and wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan receive their maiden call-ups. The first Test is set to begin in Dhaka on May 8, followed by the second in Sylhet from May 16.

Tanzid Hasan, already a familiar name in Bangladesh’s white-ball setup, has impressed selectors with his steady rise and solid red-ball credentials. He brings with him an ODI century, six fifties, and 11 T20I half-centuries, alongside five first-class centuries at an average of 40.72 in 25 matches. His technique and adaptability have positioned him as a promising option for the longer format.

Amite Hasan, on the other hand, has built his reputation through consistent performances in domestic cricket. With 11 first-class centuries in 49 matches at an impressive average of 49.32, he recently grabbed attention with a commanding 162 in the Bangladesh Cricket League in Sylhet. His temperament and patience make him well-suited for the demands of Test cricket.

Chief selector Habibul Bashar highlighted that both players have been under consideration for some time and have earned their opportunities through sustained performances. Their inclusion signals Bangladesh’s intent to build a strong and future-ready Test lineup.

The squad also sees the return of pace bowler Taskin Ahmed, who last featured in Tests in December 2024 against West Indies, making his comeback a significant boost to the pace attack. Shoriful Islam and offspinner Nayeem Hasan have also been added, strengthening the bowling unit.

However, the selectors have made some notable omissions. Fast bowler Khaled Ahmed, along with Hasan Mahmud, Jaker Ali, and Hasan Murad, have been left out of the squad.
