Derbyshire fast bowler to miss second consecutive season after recurrence of stress injury, targeting comeback in 2027
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Promising young fast bowler Harry Moore has been ruled out of a second successive season after suffering a recurrence of a back stress injury, dealing a major setback to both his development and England Under-19 cricket team prospects.
The 18-year-old, who turns 19 this Sunday, had already missed the entire 2025 campaign following the initial injury sustained during a pre-season friendly against South Australian Cricket Association (SACA). Now, his county side Derbyshire County Cricket Club has confirmed he will also be unavailable for the upcoming season.
In an official statement, Derbyshire revealed that the injury is a recurrence of the same issue that sidelined Moore last year. The club added that he will undergo a carefully managed rehabilitation program with the medical team, with a long-term goal of returning to competitive cricket in 2027.
Moore, a former cricket scholar at Repton School, has been regarded as one of the most exciting young pace prospects in England. Standing at an imposing 6ft 7in, he has shown potential not just as a fast bowler but also as a developing allrounder.
Despite his limited appearances, Moore has already made an impression in domestic cricket. He claimed 12 wickets in 10 matches in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and picked up six wickets in just three County Championship games towards the end of the 2024 season.
His absence has also impacted his international pathway. Moore was expected to be part of the England squad for the recent ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup final, where England fell short against India. Additionally, he had been lined up to feature for Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred last summer.
While the injury represents a significant hurdle, Derbyshire and England will be hopeful that Moore can make a full recovery and return stronger, with his sights set firmly on the 2027 season.
