Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen delivered a match-winning performance with both bat and ball as Yorkshire claimed a historic 70-run victory over The Blaze in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup at Headingley.

Jonassen scored a crucial 67 runs before returning with outstanding figures of 4 for 18, guiding Yorkshire to their maiden Tier 1 victory after narrow defeats against Somerset and Surrey earlier in the campaign.

Yorkshire posted a competitive 280 for 9, thanks largely to captain Lauren Winfield-Hill, who played a sparkling innings of 90 from 57 balls, including 10 boundaries and one six. She shared a vital 122-run second-wicket partnership with Jonassen after 16-year-old opener Ines Blackwell contributed 17 in a promising opening stand.

Jonassen looked in excellent touch on her home debut, reaching her first Yorkshire half-century in just 44 balls, while Winfield-Hill followed with her second consecutive fifty. At 184 for 1 after 35 overs, Yorkshire appeared set for a bigger total before a middle-order wobble slowed their momentum.

The innings was revived by Sterre Kalis, who played an aggressive knock of 61 from 42 balls, smashing three sixes to push Yorkshire to a challenging total.

In reply, The Blaze suffered an early setback when England opener Tammy Beaumont was dismissed for a duck by Rachel Slater, but Marie Kelly and Kathryn Bryce steadied the innings with half-centuries. The pair took the visitors to 126 for 1, seemingly putting them in control of the chase.

However, the match turned dramatically in the space of just two overs.

Jonassen triggered a stunning collapse by dismissing Bryce, then removing Kelly shortly after. A sharp run-out from Claudie Cooper and another wicket from Jonassen left The Blaze reeling at 132 for 5, having lost four wickets for just six runs.

The Blaze never recovered from that collapse and were eventually bowled out for 210 in 42 overs. Jonassen added another wicket late in the innings, while Cooper chipped in with three wickets to seal a memorable win for Yorkshire.

The result marks a significant milestone for Yorkshire as they celebrate their first Tier 1 victory, with Jonassen’s all-round brilliance proving the difference in a dramatic contest.
