Kusal Mendis’ blistering century and Babar Azam’s unbeaten 87 power Zalmi to 246 as Karachi Kings collapse for 87 in historic defeat
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Peshawar Zalmi delivered a dominant all-round performance to register a record-breaking 159-run victory over Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Riding on a sensational 191-run partnership between Kusal Mendis and Babar Azam, Zalmi posted a massive total of 246 before bowling out Karachi Kings for just 87 in Karachi.
This win marks the heaviest defeat in PSL history, with Karachi Kings failing to recover from an early collapse during the chase.
After being put in to bat, Zalmi lost Mohammad Haris early, but Kusal Mendis and Babar Azam quickly took control of the innings. The duo showcased exceptional batting skills, mixing classical strokes with aggressive intent to dominate the Kings’ bowling attack.
Mendis was the standout performer, smashing 109 runs off just 52 balls, bringing up the fastest century by a Zalmi batter in PSL history. Babar Azam complemented him perfectly with an unbeaten 87 off 51 balls, anchoring the innings and accelerating when needed.
Their 191-run stand is now the highest partnership in PSL history, putting Zalmi firmly in command. The team was well-placed at 66/1 after the powerplay, and the momentum continued throughout the innings.
Adding to Karachi’s woes, Abdul Samad played a fiery cameo, scoring 40 off just 12 balls. His late assault included multiple sixes and boundaries, pushing Zalmi to their highest-ever PSL total of 246.
Karachi Kings struggled both in the field and with their bowling plans. Captain David Warner’s misreading of the pitch and dropped chances allowed Zalmi batters to capitalize fully. The absence of key bowler Hasan Ali, who missed the game due to illness, also hurt their chances significantly.
Chasing a daunting target, Karachi Kings crumbled under pressure right from the start. They lost three wickets within the first three overs, including Warner and Muhammad Waseem, leaving them at a disastrous 8/3.
Zalmi’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings. Iftikhar Ahmed, Nahid Rana, and Sufyan Muqeem picked up three wickets each, dismantling the Kings’ batting lineup.
Karachi Kings were eventually bowled out for just 87 in 16.1 overs, recording the lowest PSL total in Karachi.
With this comprehensive win, Peshawar Zalmi continue their strong run in the PSL, while Karachi Kings will need to regroup quickly after this historic setback.
