Faisal Akram’s four-wicket haul and explosive fifties from Farhan and Philippe seal a convincing seven-wicket victory in PSL 2026
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Multan Sultans continued their शानदार form in PSL 2026, registering a commanding seven-wicket win over Rawalpindiz to strengthen their position as early tournament favourites. A brilliant all-round performance, led by Faisal Akram’s four-wicket haul and aggressive half-centuries from Sahibzada Farhan and Josh Philippe, ensured a comfortable chase of 182 with nearly four overs to spare.
Chasing a competitive total, the Sultans got off to a steady start despite losing Steve Smith early to Mohammad Amir. However, Sahibzada Farhan maintained his exceptional form, smashing a quickfire 68 off 38 balls. He was well-supported by Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe, who scored his second fifty of PSL 2026. The duo stitched together a match-defining 110-run partnership in just 58 balls, putting Rawalpindiz under immense pressure.
Farhan took the attack to Mohammad Amir, hitting two consecutive sixes to shift momentum firmly in Sultans’ favour. Philippe further accelerated the scoring, punishing the bowlers with aggressive stroke play, including a 16-run over and multiple sixes that effectively sealed the contest by the halfway stage of the innings.
Although Rawalpindiz managed to dismiss both set batters, the damage had already been done. Shan Masood and Ashton Turner calmly guided the team to victory, making light work of the remaining runs as the required rate dropped significantly.
Earlier in the match, Multan Sultans’ bowlers laid the foundation for victory with a disciplined performance. Left-arm wrist spinner Faisal Akram was the standout performer, picking up four crucial wickets and dismantling Rawalpindiz’s middle order with his variations. His spell proved decisive, especially during the middle overs where Rawalpindiz struggled to build partnerships.
Despite some resistance from Kamran Ghulam and Abdullah Fazal, Rawalpindiz lost momentum due to regular wickets. Dian Forrester provided a brief spark with three consecutive sixes, while Sam Billings anchored the innings with an unbeaten 56 off 34 balls, helping his side reach 182 with a strong finish.
However, on a batting-friendly pitch, the total proved insufficient against a confident Multan Sultans lineup. With this comprehensive win, the Sultans have sent a strong message to other teams in PSL 2026, showcasing both their batting depth and bowling strength.
