Jack White made an immediate impact on his return to Division One cricket, spearheading Yorkshire’s dominant bowling display against Glamorgan on the opening day of the 2026 Rothesay County Championship in Cardiff.

After a long rain delay reduced play to just 36 overs, Yorkshire capitalised on helpful seam conditions to dismantle Glamorgan’s top order. White led the charge with an impressive 3 for 15, striking early blows to leave the hosts reeling in their first Division One appearance since 2005.

Glamorgan’s innings got off to a shaky start despite Eddie Byrom finding the boundary off the first ball. The momentum quickly shifted as Yorkshire’s disciplined seam attack, supported by sharp slip catching, reduced the home side from 20 without loss to 28 for 4. Ben Coad removed Byrom, while Jonny Bairstow pulled off a stunning one-handed catch at first slip to dismiss Asa Tribe for 11.

Debutant Sean Dickson endured a tough start, falling for a nine-ball duck to White, while new captain Kiran Carlson was trapped by Dom Bess at leg slip attempting an ambitious clip. The early collapse underlined Yorkshire’s control in overcast, bowler-friendly conditions.

However, Glamorgan found resistance through experienced campaigner Colin Ingram and young all-rounder Ben Kellaway. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 71-run partnership to guide their side to 99 for 4 at stumps. Ingram’s composure and Kellaway’s resilience helped stabilise the innings against a probing Yorkshire attack.

Yorkshire handed debuts to Sam Whiteman and Netherlands international Logan van Beek, while Australian seamer Ryan Hadley made his first appearance for Glamorgan. Van Beek showed glimpses of promise and nearly broke the partnership, only for Kellaway to survive a close caught-behind appeal.

The day ended with a minor injury concern for Yorkshire as Bairstow left the field after hurting his finger, with Finley Bean taking over wicketkeeping duties. With the introduction of injury substitutes on a trial basis in the 2026 season, Yorkshire may yet have options depending on the severity of the knock.

Despite the shortened day, Yorkshire will be the happier side after asserting early dominance, while Glamorgan will take confidence from their middle-order fightback heading into day two.
