RCB star smashes unbeaten 69 vs SRH, credits break from T20 cricket for renewed energy and strong start to title defence
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Virat Kohli made a powerful return to T20 cricket in IPL 2026, scoring an unbeaten 69 off just 38 balls to guide Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a commanding win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Playing his first T20 match since the IPL 2025 final, Kohli looked in complete control during RCB’s chase of 202, helping the defending champions seal victory in just 15.4 overs. His innings, which included five fours and five sixes, ended in style as he struck Harshal Patel for 6, 4, 4, 4 in the 16th over.
After the match, Kohli highlighted how taking a break from the format helped him return mentally refreshed and fully prepared.
“Whenever I come back to play, it’s 120%. The extra rest helps me stay fresh and excited,” Kohli said.
The former RCB captain emphasized that managing workload has been crucial after years of continuous international cricket. He explained that avoiding burnout and maintaining mental sharpness are key factors behind his consistent performances.
Kohli’s form leading into IPL 2026 has been impressive. He was India’s top scorer in recent ODI series against New Zealand and South Africa, including a standout 124 against New Zealand. These performances, he said, helped him maintain rhythm despite not playing T20s for months.
“I wasn’t trying anything different. As long as I had my rhythm and fitness, things came together nicely,” Kohli added.
With this strong start, Kohli has once again underlined his importance to RCB’s batting lineup as they aim to defend their maiden IPL title. His ability to seamlessly transition formats and deliver under pressure continues to set him apart in world cricket.
RCB will next face Chennai Super Kings on April 5 in another home fixture, where Kohli will look to continue his excellent form in IPL 2026.
