Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Scotland Cricket has named a promising squad for their upcoming A-team tour of Jersey, with Ali Orr and Conor McKerr headlining the call-ups for the T20 series scheduled in April. The inclusion of the duo highlights Scotland’s focus on strengthening their talent pool and building depth for future international competitions.
Ali Orr, the 24-year-old Hampshire opener, has long been regarded as one of England’s most exciting young batters. Having made his mark during his early days at Sussex, Orr’s progress faced a setback due to a broken arm in his debut season with Hampshire. However, his selection in the Scotland A squad offers a fresh opportunity to revive his momentum while also embracing his Scottish heritage through his mother’s side.
Expressing his excitement, Orr shared that representing Scotland holds personal significance, with his family roots tracing back to Edinburgh. His participation, however, remains subject to availability depending on Hampshire’s County Championship commitments.
Joining him is Nottinghamshire fast bowler Conor McKerr, who brings a wealth of county cricket experience. The 28-year-old, who was part of South Africa’s squad in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup, qualifies for Scotland through his father’s lineage. McKerr has spent nearly a decade in English county cricket as a local player, making him a valuable addition to the squad’s pace attack.
Cricket Scotland has confirmed that the final squad will depend on the availability of players contracted with English counties. Importantly, both Orr and McKerr remain eligible for England selection under ICC regulations, even if they feature for Scotland in the future.
Scotland’s head of performance, Steve Snell, emphasized that the A-team setup is designed to provide opportunities while also identifying players capable of stepping up to the international level. The squad reflects a balanced mix of batting, pace, and spin options aimed at long-term development.
The Scotland A team will face Jersey in a four-match T20 series on April 18 and 19 at the Grainville Cricket Ground. The matches will serve as a crucial platform for emerging players to showcase their skills and stake a claim for higher honors.
Scotland A Squad: Cameron Brown, Lloyd Brown, Finlay Carter, Dan Da Costa, Jamie Dunk, Michael English, Adil Ghaffar, Callum Grant, Jack Hogarth, Ollie Jones, Muhaymen Majeed, Conor McKerr, Liam Naylor, Ali Orr.
