Queensland secured a dramatic Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) title victory, denying Alyssa Healy a fairytale farewell as they defeated New South Wales (NSW) in a rain-affected final at Cricket Central, Sydney.

Batting first, Queensland posted a formidable total of 332 for 7, thanks to brilliant centuries from Georgia Redmayne and Grace Harris. Redmayne continued her exceptional season, becoming the first player to score four centuries in a single WNCL season, while Harris delivered a powerful innings, reaching her hundred in just 86 balls.

In response, NSW looked well on track during their chase, led by a determined 64 off 63 balls from retiring legend Alyssa Healy. At 129 for 1, the Breakers were ahead on the DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) method when rain interrupted play, raising hopes of a winning send-off for Healy.

However, the revised target left NSW needing 91 runs from nine overs after the restart, shifting momentum back to Queensland. Jess Jonassen played a pivotal role in turning the game, contributing with crucial fielding efforts including key run-outs and maintaining pressure in the final overs.

Tahlia Wilson (76) and Katie Mack (27) attempted to anchor the chase, but regular setbacks derailed NSW’s progress. With 15 runs required in the final over, Jonassen held her nerve, sealing victory with a decisive run-out on the penultimate ball, as NSW fell eight runs short of the adjusted target of 220.

The win marked Queensland’s second WNCL title, adding to their maiden triumph in the 2020-21 season. For Jonassen, it was a particularly emotional moment, celebrating her first title victory with the team after years of service.

Despite the loss, Healy’s final innings showcased her class and leadership, providing fans with a memorable farewell. However, Queensland’s resilience and match-winning performances ensured they walked away as deserving champions in a thrilling WNCL 2026 final.
