Labuschagne will work with fellow Australian Jason Gillespie, who was appointed the franchise’s coach
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Marnus Labuschagne has been officially appointed as the captain of Hyderabad Kingsmen for the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2026. The Australian batter, who was a direct signing for the franchise, becomes one of three Australian captains in the league this season, joining David Warner (Karachi Kings) and Ashton Turner (Multan Sultans).
Despite limited experience in the T20 format, Labuschagne has been entrusted with the leadership role. He has played only one T20I and featured in just four T20 matches since July 2024, all for Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League. Known primarily as a top-order batter, Labuschagne also offers part-time bowling options with off-spin and medium pace, having claimed 40 wickets in 59 T20 matches.
Hyderabad Kingsmen, one of the two new franchises in PSL 2026, were the final team to announce their captain. With no clear standout leader in the squad, the management opted for Labuschagne, who was also the franchise’s first confirmed signing. Other star players in the squad include Glenn Maxwell, Kusal Perera, and Saim Ayub.
Labuschagne will work closely with head coach Jason Gillespie, a former Pakistan Test coach, while Grant Bradburn joins the support staff as fielding coach.
The Kingsmen will kick off their campaign in the tournament opener against three-time champions Lahore Qalandars at Gaddafi Stadium on March 26.
