In a major boost for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium has officially received government clearance to host matches in IPL 2026, including the highly anticipated final. The approval comes after a detailed inspection by a government-appointed expert committee, ensuring the venue meets all safety and structural requirements.

The stadium, home to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, is scheduled to host five league-stage matches along with two crucial playoff fixtures, including the grand finale. The season is set to kick off with an exciting clash between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28, making it one of the most anticipated openings of the tournament.

The clearance follows a comprehensive review led by a committee formed under Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara. The inspection focused on structural integrity, crowd management systems, and overall stadium readiness. The final approval was granted after discussions involving officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association, RCB management, and the expert panel chaired by G Maheshwar Rao.

To enhance fan safety and improve match-day experience, several upgrades have been implemented. These include the introduction of digital QR-coded tickets to streamline entry and reduce overcrowding. Additionally, RCB has collaborated with the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation to ensure smooth transportation for fans. Metro services will be extended until 1 AM on match days, with increased train frequency and the possibility of free travel for ticket holders.

Infrastructure improvements at the stadium include the addition of six new entry gates, expansion of existing access points, and the development of designated holding areas for spectators. Authorities are also working closely with city police to regulate traffic on Cubbon Road during match hours, ensuring better crowd flow and safety.

As part of scheduling arrangements, RCB will play two of their home games at Shaheed Veer Narayan Stadium in Raipur, under an agreement with the Chhattisgarh government. Meanwhile, fans in Bengaluru can look forward to another high-profile clash on April 5 against Chennai Super Kings.

The clearance marks a significant turnaround for the venue, which last hosted a match during IPL 2025 and faced scrutiny following a tragic incident during RCB celebrations. Since then, the KSCA, under the leadership of former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad, has implemented key reforms to meet safety standards within a short timeframe.

With the stadium now ready, operations will soon be handed over to RCB and their event partners, DNA Entertainment Networks. Ticket sales for IPL 2026 matches are expected to begin later this week, as excitement builds for another thrilling season of cricket in Bengaluru.
