Zimbabwe opener Kelis Ndhlovu has been ruled out of the third and final ODI against New Zealand women’s national cricket team after suffering a concussion during the second match in Dunedin. The young batter is currently recovering and remains under medical observation following the incident.

According to a statement from Zimbabwe Cricket, Ndhlovu briefly lost consciousness after being struck by a bouncer but has since shown positive signs during her recovery. Medical assessments confirmed that although she sustained a concussion, there were no further complications.

“An MRI scan later confirmed there was no skull fracture,” Zimbabwe Cricket said. “She was treated and subsequently discharged from hospital. Ndhlovu returned for a follow-up examination on Tuesday morning, where further tests confirmed there were no additional complications.”

The incident occurred during the seventh over of Zimbabwe’s innings in the second ODI when Ndhlovu was hit by a short delivery from Bree Illing. Despite wearing a helmet, Ndhlovu ducked into the bouncer and collapsed immediately after impact. Medical staff attended to her on the field before she was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

At the time of the injury, Ndhlovu had put together an opening stand of 25 runs with Modester Mupachikwa. Tendai Makusha came in as her concussion substitute for the remainder of the innings.

Meanwhile, New Zealand secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory in the match, thanks to a brilliant performance from all-rounder Amelia Kerr, who claimed an impressive seven-wicket haul. The win gave New Zealand a 2-0 lead in the ODI series heading into the final match.
