The long-time assistant coach will step into Adam Voges’ shoes after signing a three-year deal
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Beau Casson has been appointed as the new head coach of Western Australia, succeeding Adam Voges, who will step down at the end of the current season. The former Australian spinner, who played one Test for Australia national cricket team, has signed a three-year contract and will officially take charge ahead of the next domestic season.
Casson brings significant experience to the role, having served as assistant coach under Voges for the past seven years. Before joining the Western Australia setup, the former left-arm wrist spinner worked in coaching roles with New South Wales cricket team and Sydney Thunder in Australian domestic cricket.
Western Australia will be aiming to rebuild after a challenging period in the Sheffield Shield, where the team finished with back-to-back wooden spoons. This downturn followed a highly successful era in which the side won three consecutive Shield titles from the 2021-22 to the 2023-24 seasons.
Speaking about his new role, Casson expressed gratitude for the opportunity and praised the environment built by Voges during his tenure.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with Adam Voges and the rest of the coaching staff over the past seven seasons, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together,” Casson said. “Adam created a fantastic environment that brought the best out of our players, and I’m excited to continue building on that foundation.”
Casson also highlighted his ambition to maintain Western Australia’s strong cricketing standards while helping players push for higher honours.
“I want our players to strive for excellence and give them every opportunity to reach the next level. I’m confident we have the talent and depth in this group to bring more success to Western Australia in both formats of the game,” he added.
Western Australia’s general manager Kade Harvey backed the appointment, praising Casson’s dedication and understanding of the local cricket system.
“Since joining the coaching panel in 2019, Beau has worked incredibly hard with our players and fellow coaches, earning their respect and trust,” Harvey said. “He has a deep understanding of the game and the Western Australian cricket landscape, and we believe our players will thrive under his leadership.”
Meanwhile, Voges will continue his coaching career in franchise cricket. He will remain head coach of the Perth Scorchers as they look to defend their title in the Big Bash League. Voges is also set to coach the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket and serve as an assistant to Peter Moores at Trent Rockets in The Hundred.
Voges will lead Western Australia for the final time in the upcoming last round of the Sheffield Shield season against New South Wales cricket team before Casson officially takes over the role.
