Hampshire County Cricket Club have signed Jayden Seales as their overseas fast bowler after a planned deal with Michael Neser collapsed. Neser was originally scheduled to play the first six rounds of the County Championship season but was withdrawn by Cricket Australia following his strong performances in the recent The Ashes series.

Neser played a key role in Australia’s 4–1 Ashes victory over England. Initially left out of the squad for the first Test, he was later drafted in as cover for the injured Josh Hazlewood. The seamer impressed immediately, claiming 15 wickets in three Tests, including his maiden five-wicket haul at The Gabba.

His impressive performance earned him an upgrade to a central contract with Cricket Australia, putting him in contention for the national side’s upcoming Test schedule. Australia are set to host Bangladesh national cricket team in a home Test series in August, and the board has decided to manage Neser’s workload carefully, leading to his withdrawal from Hampshire’s plans.

To fill the gap, Hampshire moved quickly to secure Seales. The 24-year-old West Indies fast bowler previously played 10 County Championship matches for Sussex County Cricket Club over the past two seasons. Seales was available after going unsold in the recent Pakistan Super League auction.

Hampshire’s director of cricket Giles White said the club were disappointed to miss out on Neser but excited about the new signing. He highlighted Seales’ pace, skill, and willingness to attack batters as qualities that will strengthen the squad this season.

Hampshire narrowly avoided relegation to Division Two last season and will begin their new campaign against Essex County Cricket Club on April 3. The club has also strengthened its batting line-up by signing Jake Lehmann, who will qualify as a local player using his British passport. Meanwhile, overseas seamer Kyle Abbott is set to return, partnering Seales as Hampshire’s two overseas players for the season.
