Halliday’s unbeaten 157 off 118 balls helped New Zealand post a massive total, while Amelia Kerr and Jess Kerr combined for seven wickets to dismantle Zimbabwe’s batting lineup.
After opting to bowl first, Zimbabwe made an encouraging start by removing New Zealand captain Amelia Kerr (15) and Emma McLeod (35) within the first 16 overs. However, their early success was short-lived as Halliday and Maddy Green steadied the innings with a crucial 121-run partnership for the third wicket. Green scored a composed half-century before being run out, but Halliday continued to dominate the Zimbabwe bowlers.
Halliday played an exceptional innings, reaching her fifty in just 45 balls with eight boundaries. She later brought up her maiden ODI century in 93 balls and accelerated brilliantly towards the end. Teaming up with Isabella Gaze, Halliday added an unbeaten 151-run stand for the fourth wicket off only 97 balls. Gaze also contributed a quick half-century, while Halliday raced from 100 to 150 in just 21 balls, showcasing her aggressive batting. New Zealand eventually finished with a huge total of 354 for 3, their highest ODI score against Zimbabwe.
Chasing a daunting target of 355, Zimbabwe showed some resistance early on. Modester Mupachikwa began positively with a couple of boundaries, and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano along with Kelis Ndhlovu added a steady 93-run partnership for the second wicket. Ndhlovu reached her second ODI fifty but was dismissed immediately after reaching the milestone.
Once that partnership was broken, Zimbabwe’s innings collapsed rapidly. From a stable position of 142 for 2, they lost five wickets quickly and slipped to 159 for 7. Amelia Kerr led the bowling attack with an impressive spell of 4 for 35, dismantling the middle order, while Jess Kerr cleaned up the tail by picking up two wickets in two deliveries.
Zimbabwe were eventually bowled out for 174 in 47.3 overs, handing New Zealand a comprehensive 180-run victory. Halliday’s record-breaking innings and the Kerr sisters’ combined bowling brilliance ensured a commanding start for New Zealand in the ODI series.
